If you dream it, we can build it.
At Kara O’Brien Renovations, we have designed and built porches, pergolas, flagstone patios, brick sidewalks (sometimes using antique reclaimed bricks), garages, outbuilding, and additions.
Additions are one of our specialties because we are very sensitive to making sure that an addition added to a historic house is completely seamless. In fact, when we began as Laughing Sun Renovations, we added entire second stories to homes using stained glass, antique doors and hardware, built-ins, antique medicine cabinets and reproduction tile, and matching 1920s exterior brick to a “t.”
And the new space jells so beautifully with the original home that you’d have to cut a hole in the wall to see the framing to believe that the space was added, not original.
One of our creations, a home that we built from the ground up (The Dragonfly House in Kirkwood)–a prospective buyer argued at long length that the house was a renovation and not new construction (he was fooled by the heart of pine floors, antique mantels and tile, old heart of pine doors, and stained glass.) It wasn’t until he was implored to go into the basement and look up at the shiny new floor joists framing did he stop arguing. And was then amazed.
And that is the level of detail that we strive for and attain, with everything that we touch.
