This 1920s Kirkwood bungalow kitchen got moved across the hallway for better flow to the formal dining room. We built custom cabinets from hardwood and painted them antique white to match the trim work. The homeowners chose a china orange wall to tie in with their Fiesta-Ware collection and to add dramatic contrast to white cabinets. We designed separate built-in Hoosier-style cabinets on two short walls and they became furniture style pieces—one was an adult beverage center with a bar sink, wine chiller, and wine rack. All of the cabinets were topped with sumptuous Brazilian soapstone. The island was painted black for contrast and topped with white honed cararra marble. Our signature cabinet crown molding of flat plate rack and brackets was added for distinctive Craftsman styling.
